Leadership Development Director

Teaching Trust seeks a full-time Leadership Development Director (LDD) to provide high-quality, intensive leadership coaching, feedback and support to a cohort of principals and their leadership teams. This position will be based in Dallas, TX with frequent travel to sites based in Ft. Worth. This position is ideal for someone who is energized by coaching and developing school leaders, has a passion for achieving ambitious results for kids, and wants to work on a fun, dynamic, goal-driven team.

Teaching Trust’s Leadership Teams Program is designed to help principals and their school leadership teams create and implement a robust plan for improvement. This program is funded by a state contract subject to renewal.

What You'll Take On

At Teaching Trust we believe that strong school leadership teams are at the core of schools that are changing the odds for our most vulnerable students. Our teams-based approach is grounded in our belief that effective leadership teams are not limited to school administration, but rather are inclusive of educators who have varying positions on campus.  As a Managing Director of Leadership Development, you will be charged with guiding a portfolio of teams to implement specific practices (related to instruction, team effectiveness and change management) at their schools. You will direct school leadership teams to success by delivering large group professional development sessions and providing site-based and other coaching.

Your day-to-day work may include:

  • Strategic planning with the Leadership Teams Program Officer to align priorities against organizational goals
  • Collaborating with school leadership teams to establish appropriate student achievement goals in light of school vision and context
  • Assessing team performance to advance instructional competence, team effectiveness, and student achievement
  • Coaching at individual schools to provide high leverage feedback to individual team members and teams as a whole
  • Planning and facilitating professional development sessions, focused around instructional excellence and team effectiveness
  • Establishing and leveraging relationships with individual program participants to cultivate a sense of community within and across school teams
  • Developing collaborative relationships with Teaching Trust team members to develop best practices around leading school change

  • Lead through influence: You know that great leaders can inspire others to act without being in a direct management role.  You know how to balance motivation and accountability to lead others to action and can speak about specific examples in your professional history when you have led through influence.  
  • Deliver exceptional professional development: You have experience designing and leading professional development for large groups of people.  You have the content expertise to create practice-based learning experiences for school leaders that will drive change back on school campuses.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of resilience: You approach challenges head on. You know what it means to make tough calls, hold yourself and others accountable to reaching goals, and learn from your mistakes. You expect there to be setbacks and you leverage challenges as an opportunity to improve. You actively seek to get better in all that you do.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A minimum of three years as a principal or head of school required; preferably in a high-needs setting
  • Ability to speak to consistently improving results for students
  • Experience facilitating effective professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to identify effective instructional practices and coach others to reach rigorous goals
  • Strong content knowledge in personal leadership, instructional leadership, and school culture leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills with ability to influence, collaborate and build trusting relationships to drive results
  • Ability to tie leadership practices and actions to student achievement data in order to strategically and effectively replicate results
  • High level of comfort delivering and receiving direct feedback to influence leaders and improve outcomes
  • Ability to work well with people with a very wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics; must be capable of achieving results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching preferred
  • Comfort tackling sensitive issues and modeling crucial conversations
  • Desire and ability to build an aspirational school culture rooted in high-expectations
  • Authorization to work in the United States required
