Managing Director, Staff Knowledge & Learning Strategy

Teaching Trust seeks a full-time Managing Director, Staff Knowledge & Learning Strategy (SKLS) to be the primary champion leading our strategy supporting our staff’s learning, growth, and development and help ensure Teaching Trust is a learning organization. Teaching Trust believes that being a learning organization will allow us to continue to improve our programs and ultimately increase the impact we have in the communities we serve. To be a learning organization, we believe we must have  a psychologically safe work environment where staff can reflect on their work - both successes and failures, learn, improve, grow, and get better.  

The Managing Director of SKLS will be instrumental in creating and implementing a comprehensive strategy to foster a learning environment for our teams. This position is ideal for someone who has  a passion for thinking strategically about learning experiences, processes, tools, and systems that can amplify learning and “a-ha” moments for teams.  

The Managing Director, SKLS will be passionate about designing professional development for adult learners, developing knowledge management tools, learning, leading and developing others, and collaborating with others to achieve org-wide results. This person will thrive on creating learning conditions that edify others and amplify their ability to do amazing work. And the Managing Director, SKLS loves working on on a fun, dynamic, creative, goal-driven team.

Who We Are

Teaching Trust is a nonprofit organization grounded in the conviction that school leadership is the single largest lever to improve public education. We develop strategic, visionary leaders at multiple levels within schools and school systems to engage and lead accountable, collaborative teams. These teams in turn ensure schools have high quality teaching and learning and aspirational cultures, which are necessary to provide an education that eliminates the opportunity gap for low-income students and students of color.

What You'll Take On

You will report to the Chief Operations Officer and work with the Talent team to develop and implement our strategy for staff learning  by focusing on two areas:  staff professional development and knowledge management.

You will:

  • Develop and implement the overall learning strategy that will include:
    • Developing our philosophy for staff learning & development, including both in house professional development and how we might leverage external learning opportunities
    • Designing our knowledge strategy to develop the tools, systems, and processes to systematically capture and share our knowledge and learning across the organization
  • Lead key staff learning initiatives including our:
    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative to help ensure our culture is supportive of diversity and promotes inclusion of all cultures, without overly-preferencing one culture over another
    • Manager Vision of Excellence initiative to help our managers develop the skills to foster the learning and development of our staff
  • Design and deliver learning opportunities and professional development resources
  • Collaborate with the Talent Team to identify learning priorities and staff development resources that will be most impactful in the retention, growth, and development of staff
  • Collaborate with the Chief Learning Officer and the Program Design team to ensure they have the systems needed to capture the Teaching Trust Program Playbook
  • Drive change management to ensure consistent adoption of staff development strategies and knowledge management programs
  • Communicate and drive awareness of knowledge management programs to increase sharing and collaboration
  • Be a leader and ambassador of the Teaching Trust culture to foster a growth minded, innovative, and psychologically safe work environment that support the growth of all team members

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A minimum of six years of work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven track record of designing effective trainings and professional development resources for adult learners
  • Experience with designing learning around diversity, equity, and inclusion, building culture, and talent management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts and issues in knowledge management processes and organizational learning approaches
  • Strong change management skills
  • Passion to work at an organization focused on ameliorating educational inequity
  • Exceptionally strong project management and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills with ability to build trusting relationships and buy-in to drive results
  • Able to quickly build content knowledge and partner with subject matter experts to design learning and development resources
  • Ability to work effectively and with cultural competence across diverse groups
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development
  • High level of comfort taking and implementing feedback to improve the work
  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven and entrepreneurial environment
